Yoast SEO setting is easy, but you have to be a little patient when setting. The goal, are articles created appear on the first page of search engines like Google with the keywords you have specified.
Yoast SEO is a plugin that is quite widely used by website owners, this is because the SEO features it has is vary.
In this article, we will discuss how to set Yoast SEO with settings that can improve your website’s ranking.
Yoast SEO Plugin Features
The features of the Yoast SEO plugin are complete enough to improve SEO of a website, here are some interesting features it has:
- Change SEO title and meta description in each post;
- Meta Robot Configuration;
- Verify Google Webmaster Tools, Bing and Yandex;
- XML Sitemap;
- Meta Robot;
- Google snippet;
- Feature analysis.
Installing Yoast SEO Plugin
The first thing to do is to install and activate Yoast SEO plugin . For details on how to install plugins on WordPress, please follow the tutorial on how to install the wordpress plugin .
After the plugin is activated on WordPress dashboard, you will see a menu on the left with the name SEO .
In this step, you have installed and activated the plugin, let’s move to the next step.
Yoast SEO Setting Methods
Keep in mind, the settings made in this tutorial are what we recommend. If you are a beginner and want to install Yoast SEO plugin as in this tutorial, please follow step by step.
Step 1: Data Transfer
Most website owners usually use other plugins besides Yoast SEO like All in One SEO Pack.
If you have previously used the best WordPress SEO plugin and want Yoast to work optimally, please make sure all SEO settings in the previous plugin have been transferred to the Yoast plugin before deactivating it.
To transfer settings, we recommend using SEO Data Transporter by StudioPress plugin . If your website is a new website, please skip this step.
Step 2: General
Please click on the SEO menu , then select the General tab . You will see a button to open the configuration. In this tutorial we did not make settings for General settings , please proceed to step 3.
Step 3: Features
Please select the Features tab then activate the Advanced settings page.
After that, please click the Save changes button to save the settings. Will be seen in SEO menu.
The menus are Titles & Metas , XML Sitemaps , Social , Advanced, Tools, Search Console . We will discuss how to make settings for each of these features in the next step.
Step 4: Your Info
- Next, please select Your Info tab . Where you need to enter information about the site and the name or company name.
- Please fill in Website name and Alternate name sections that describe your website type. If this section is not filled in, Yoast SEO will automatically use the title of your website.
- The next part, please choose Company or Person for the website that you created. If you choose Company, please fill in the company name and also upload the logo of the company. If you choose person, please enter the name that manages the website, then click Save changes button .
Step 5: Webmaster Tools
If you already understand SEO, you must have heard that quite popular search engines like Google, Bing and Yandex allow site owners to add their websites using webmaster tools.
Webmaster tools allow you to see insights and data about your website from search engines.
To verify the website and view report data about the website, you must add the tracking code to the website or upload files from the webmaster to the hosting where your website is located.
Most beginners, doesn’t know how to add traking code, so Yoast SEO provides these features to make it easier to use.
The method is quite simple, all you have to do is add meta code from the search engine in the column provided. For the steps, please follow the tutorial on how to verify the website on Google and Bing .
Step 6: Security
The last tab is Security . This section only has one option, which is to activate the advanced meta box section of Yost SEO. We recommend selecting Disabled, disabling this option allows the author to not be able to specify nonindex on the post.
Step 7: Title and Meta
There are several tabs on the Titles & Metas menu , here is an explanation.
In this section you can choose the symbol you want to use as a separator between titles. The default choice is a dash , you can use the mark by default.
Next on the Homepage tab is to determine the title of the main page of your website. By default these fields will be filled by the title template. Like on the home page, maybe you want to make a title, description and keywords.
As for posts, a title will differ from one post to another.
The title template allows you to specify a title and a brief description of your website.
As seen in the image below, for the Title column template is already filled in by default and you only need to fill in the template meta description section in accordance with the description of the website being managed.
In this section you can set how the post title when appearing on search engines. It is recommended that this section is left alone, for the description to be left blank and the Title template uses the default setting of %% title %%.
YOAST SEO Taxonomies
On the Taxonomies tab, you can set the Title template and Meta description for categories, tags, formats and image tags. You can leave it by default.
If your website has more than one author, please activate this section. Conversely, if only one person, please disable the Author archives section.
For other tabs, please leave them by default.
Step 8: Social
Yoast SEO has quite complete features, you can integrate social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter and Google+ with your blog.
In the Social menu section, please click the Accounts tab , then enter your social media account in Your social profiles column in the form of the url from the profile of each of your social media accounts.
This is useful for notifying search engines like Google about social media accounts for your website. When finished, please click the Save Changes button .
On the tab up , be sure to Open Graph Meta Data in a state of Enabled , this will add Facebook open graph meta data into the <head> section of your website.
This will be useful for website thumbnails that appear when you share articles on Facebook.
Please upload an image for the thumbnail of your website’s main page, it can be a website logo or other images that describe your website. Enter the Title and Description for your website too. Images and descriptions will appear when your website is shared on Facebook
In the Default settings section , please enter the image that you want to use for posts or pages that don’t have images.
For Twitter, you can also add Twitter cards to the tag head section through this Yoast SEO plugin. For part of the default card type to use we recommend to use the Summary . Don’t forget to save changes by pressing the Save Changes button .
Just like Facebook, Pinterest also uses Open Graph meta data. Be sure to have the Open Graph meta data status on the Facebook tab enabled .
Next, please verify by visiting the confirm your site with Pinterest link . After that, enter the verification code provided by Pinterest into the Pinterest confirmation column . After that, please click Save changes button to save the changes.
If you already have a Google+ page for your website, please enter the URL of your Google+ account in the Google Publisher Page column . After that, please click Save Changes button .
Step 9: XML Sitemaps
An XML sitemap is the most important part that you must have on your WordPress website. This is to facilitate search engines like Google in indexing content that you create.
How To Create XML Sitemap On WordPress through Yoast SEO is very easy. Please select the XML Sitemaps menu on the left, then in the XML sitemap functionality the status is changed to Enabled . After that, please click the Save Changes button .
Make sure the tab section Users sitemap for Author / user sitemap in a state Disabled .
On the Post Types tab you can specify the portion of content that you don’t want to display in XML Sitemap, you can use the default settings from Yoast SEO.
Do the same in the Taxonomies tab .
Step 10: Advanced
In the Advanced section you can make settings for breadcrumbs, permalinks and RSS feeds.
Breadcrumbs are very useful for internal linking, because you will see the structure of your content. In addition, breadcrums will also appear in search results as shown in the image below.
To activate it, Enable Breadcrumbs status in Breadcrumbs settings .
If breadcrumbs structure is not displayed on your template, please follow the following guidelines .
Step 11: Tools
In this section there are three features that can be used:
- Bulk editor : Useful for making changes to the title and description of each of your posts.
- File editor : Useful for making changes to .htaccess and robots.txt files.
- Import and Export : This section can be used to import or export settings in Yoast SEO.
Step 12: Search Console
Search Console section allows you to Verify Your Website To Google Webmaster Tools (now the name is Google Search Console).
To verify through Yoast SEO plugin it’s quite easy, please click Get Google Authorization Code button , then after getting the code from Google Search Console, please add it to the column, then click Authenticate button .

The use of Yoast SEO in posts
Setting up Yoast SEO is quite easy, after you have finished installing and configuring Yoast SEO plugin, the next step is to apply it to posts. So each of your posts are well optimized.
Using it also easy, because you just need to look at the Analysis from Yoast SEO at the bottom of the post editor.
1. Enter keywords
Please enter keywords inside Focus keywords column that you have previously specified.
2. Enter a Description
Please click Edit snippet button, then enter a short description of your article that contains keywords.Also make sure the slug contains keywords.
Enter keywords at least in one subtitle H2 / H3
Please enter at least one keyword in the subtitle in your post. In this example we add keywords to the H2 subtitle, as seen in the image below.
Pay attention to keyword density in the Analysis section
You will see keyword density in the post, which is the comparison of the number of keywords with number of words in the post. Make sure keyword density is green. In addition to keyword density, also pay attention to other parts and try to be green.
Add internal links when using yoast seo
Please add an internal link, which is a link to one of your posts on the website. As seen in the image below, an internal link that leads to the your another articles.
Add keywords to the alt tag of the image if you are using yoast seo
- Please add keywords to the alt image tag, at least one of the images. The way is easy, please click on the picture in the post then select the pencil logo.
- After that in the Alternative Text section enter the keywords of your post, as seen in the image below.
